Martin FacteurA Shopify shop for a collective of illustrators, posters drawn in the One Piece universe

Martin Facteur sells « Wanted » posters and prints drawn by its team, set in the One Piece universe. The shop runs on Shopify: I designed and built the site in 2020 and have looked after it since.

The context

Martin Facteur is a crew: an illustrator, a scribe, a right-hand man. Together they draw « Wanted » posters and prints set in the One Piece universe, and they wanted to sell them online without spending their evenings on it. The site had to look like them, a story and its characters, and stay simple to run day to day.

I built the shop on my own in 2020, in about a month, on Shopify. It is the only Shopify project in my work: for this team, with nobody on the technical side, a platform that handles hosting and payment was the right call. I have looked after it since.

The goals

  • Sell the posters online with a short path to checkout, from the collection to the payment
  • Give the site the team's own voice: a crew and a story, not a catalogue

The answer

The shop reads like a story: the home page introduces the crew, then the collections, Spread Colors, Poster Wanted and the bundles, lead to the product pages. Checkout is Shopify's own, short and familiar to buyers. An Instagram feed, a contact page and an FAQ round it off.

The team adds a poster, changes a price or launches a discount code from the Shopify admin, without me.

What I delivered

  • The whole shop on Shopify: home, collections (Spread Colors, Poster Wanted, bundles), product pages, basket, checkout
  • The contact and FAQ pages, and the Instagram feed
  • A layout in the team's own colours

Frequently asked questions

Why Shopify rather than WooCommerce?

For a small shop run by illustrators, with nobody on the technical side, Shopify takes hosting, updates and payment security out of the equation. The team adds a poster, changes a price and ships an order without asking me.

Do you still build on Shopify?

Yes, when it is the right tool: a simple shop, few products, no particular need. As soon as something has to be built to measure (complex product pages, a trade area, a connection to another tool), I recommend WooCommerce on a theme written for you.

What does a shop like this cost?

An online shop starts at €4,000 excl. VAT. On Shopify, the platform subscription comes on top and is paid by the client.
